Lighting up 430,000 Brazilian Homes! CGN Brazil Energy’s TN Wind Power Project Officially Put into Operation

  • On May 30, local time, witnessed by Zhu Qingqiao, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, Jeronimo Rodriguez, Governor of Bahia State, and Efrain Cruz, Executive Vice Minister of Brazil’s Ministry of Mining and Energy, CGN Brazil Energy’s Tanque Novo wind power project was officially put into operation, with the projected annual power generation of 720 GWh. It can “light up” 430,000 Brazilian families, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 650,000 tons per year, which is equivalent to afforestation of 1,800 hectares. More than 1,000 jobs are created for the local community during the construction period of the project, which has effectively helped Brazil’s economic and social development and energy transformation and upgrading.

    Tanque Novo Wind Power Project (hereinafter referred to as the “TN Project”) is the second greenfield project independently constructed by CGN in Brazil, which is located in Bahia State, the northeastern part of Brazil with rich wind resources, and commenced construction on November 25, 2021, with a total installed capacity of 180 MW. The project is configured with 40 wind turbines, all of which are using Chinese wind turbines. Those are the largest bladed wind turbines in South America at present.

    Zhu Qingqiao said at the commissioning ceremony that China-Brazil clean energy cooperation has a good foundation and broad prospects, and the construction of the TN project is a vivid portrayal of the transformation and upgrading of China-Brazil accelerated cooperation in the new era, as well as an innovative practice of Chinese enterprises taking the initiative in fulfilling their social responsibility and integrating into the Brazilian society.

    Efrain Cruz said that the TN project is a successful model of China-Brazil energy innovation cooperation, which provides clean energy and creates jobs for Brazil, while also strongly driving Brazil’s energy transformation and wind energy industry upgrading.
