Edra Hosts "Lion Dance & Cai Qing" Event to Welcome Lantern Festival
On the eve of the Lantern Festival, Edra organized a vibrant "Lion Dance and Cai Qing" ceremony at its Kuala Lumpur office in Malaysia, embodying the auspicious tradition of bidding farewell to the past and welcoming new beginnings. Chinese and Malaysian employees donned red attire, Qipao, or Tang-style garments to celebrate the occasion, embracing the new year with rich cultural symbolism.
Amid thunderous drumbeats and clashing cymbals, two golden-orange lions performed the "Cai Qing" ritual, visiting each department to deliver Lunar New Year blessings. The spectacle drew crowds of onlookers, with applause and cheers erupting as employees touched the lions’ heads for good fortune, snapped photos, and interacted joyfully with the performers. Workstations were adorned with mandarin oranges and red envelopes, inviting the lions to "peel the oranges" (a homophone for "good luck" in Chinese) to usher in prosperity. During the ritual, the lions "devoured" lettuce ("Cai Qing"), symbolizing wealth accumulation, then spat shredded greens to signify abundant fortune. Finally, they presented oranges and lettuce to the company as tokens of harmony and auspiciousness.
Rooted in centuries of tradition, the lion dance allowed Edra’s overseas team to immerse in the charm of Chinese heritage. The event enriched corporate culture, fostered cross-cultural unity, and inspired employees to embark on the new year with vigor and shared purpose.
