  • On March 20 local time, CGN Laos and the Lao government signed the Project Development Agreement (PDA) for the Phase II 556MW Wind Power Project under the Northern Laos Interconnected Clean Energy Base in Vientiane.

The Northern Laos Interconnected Clean Energy Base is a pivotal power supply project supporting electricity interconnectivity between China and Laos. It aims to develop an integrated large-scale clean energy base incorporating wind, solar, biomass, and other renewable sources. By adopting an innovative multi-energy complementary integration model, the project will significantly enhance the stability and reliability of power supply, driving higher-level and more sustainable electricity interconnectivity between the two countries. Currently, the Phase I 1,000MW photovoltaic project, which commenced construction in December 2024, has completed the installation of its first batch of solar modules. The Phase II project includes an additional 1,000MW photovoltaic project and the newly signed 556MW wind power project. Upon full completion, the combined installed capacity of Phases I and II will reach 2,556MW, with an estimated annual power generation of 4.5 billion kWh.

As global demand for clean energy continues to rise, the integrated development of the energy industry has become an irreversible trend. Aligning with energy transition trends and national energy strategies, CGNEI has prioritized the development of the interconnected clean energy base in northern Laos. By actively exploring multi-energy complementary models, the company aims to overcome the "intermittency" challenges of renewable energy and provide innovative solutions to enhance the stability of cross-border electricity interconnectivity.
